About Peira Levada

Alexandre Durand is the son of vignerons in Bergerac but did not find his place in his home region. He chose Faugères instead — a terroir he fell for immediately. In 2018 he founded Pèira Levada in Laurens, a name taken from the marble menhirs that protrude from the ground on some of his parcels ('pèira levada' is Occitan for 'lifted stone'). The estate is 6 hectares spread across ten small parcels around Laurens, on varying soils of schist, marble and limestone. All parcels are farmed biodynamically without synthetic products — insects and microbiological life in the soil are a priority. In the cellar: destemmed grapes are tank-filled by gravity, fermented with indigenous yeasts, no additives and no sulphites. Alexandre's words about his wines: 'energy and vibration.' Pèira Levada is one of the most exciting young estates in Faugères.
